Brunette the Label was founded by Miriam Alden in 2014 to reflect her personal values through
the products she was already selling through her wholesale business, Brunette Showroom.
Miriam brings over 25 years of experience in the fashion industry, beginning her career as a fit
model and working across styling, writing, retail, and wholesale before founding Brunette
Showroom and later Brunette the Label in 2014. The brand quickly evolved from its first iconic
sweatshirt, “Brunette is the New Black,” into a full fashion and lifestyle line that celebrates
community and authentic design. As CEO, Creative Director, and female founder of Brunette the
Label and Brunette Showroom, Miriam champions her trademarked “Babes Supporting Babes”
mantra, building a community centred on empowerment, inclusivity, and mentorship for
emerging entrepreneurs. Her vision is to uplift all babes, every day, through both her designs
and her leadership. Some of Miriam’s career highlights include hosting pop-ups at Holt Renfrew,
selling her collections to Nordstrom, and collaborating with Juicy Couture on a runway show.
She has been featured in Elle Canada and has received both the Nancy Mak Award and the
Industry Originator Award at Vancouver Fashion Week this past year. The Nancy Mak Award
has granted her the opportunity to showcase Brunette the Label at Paris Fashion Week in
March of 2026. Inspired by vintage fashion, Miriam creates clothing that lasts season to season,
holds a special place in your closet, and can be passed down from generation to generation.
Her designs reflect a vision rooted in authenticity, community, and timeless style.

What inspired you to create Brunette the Label?
My relationship with fashion started in the ’90s, and I developed a deep love for vintage fashion, especially jackets. After working across styling, writing, and wholesale, I saw how clothing could create connection and identity. I wanted to build a brand that combined style with a deeper purpose and helped women feel connected, uplifted, and confident.
How would you describe Brunette the Label’s design style?
Brunette the Label balances ease and refinement, combining its West Coast roots with elevated, fashion-forward design. The brand continues to evolve while preserving the signature styles and messaging that have shaped its identity.
What can people expect from your FW26 collection?
You can expect a collection that balances relaxed West Coast ease with refined Parisian influence and Miriam’s equestrian roots. New shapes and proportions appear alongside familiar pieces, with a palette ranging from deep plums and espresso to soft oatmeals, worn denim, chive, and touches of red.
How has your equestrian background influenced the FW26 collection?
Miriam Alden’s equestrian upbringing shapes the collection through its sense of discipline and heritage. These influences are combined with West Coast ease and the timeless elegance and romantic precision associated with Paris.
What does “Babes Supporting Babes” mean to Brunette the Label?
“Babes Supporting Babes” reflects my belief that there is room for everyone and that women are strongest when they support and uplift one another. I want Brunette to be a space where women feel seen, welcomed, and celebrated.
