THE NANCY MAK AWARD
Nancy Mak’s journey with Vancouver Fashion Week began in 2008 when she attended a model fitting with her daughter, Camille. Inspired by VFW’s vision, she quickly became a dedicated supporter, helping secure staging, lighting, sound equipment, and valuable media connections that contributed to the event’s early growth.
Raised in a family with a long history in the fashion industry, Nancy built a career in fabric sales, design, and consulting. Known for her creativity, generosity, and ability to bring people together, she inspired and supported many within the fashion community.
Nancy continued pursuing her passion for fashion until her passing in 2012. Today, the Nancy Mak Award honors her lasting legacy by recognizing and supporting promising emerging designers.
Mak grew up immersed in fashion as her family ran a sportswear factory in East Vancouver. An art school graduate, she built a vibrant career in fabric sales, design, and consulting Her daughter Camille recalls, “She was a connector of people, always encouraging others to dream big and act boldly.” Her son Julien adds, “She brought people together with generosity, insight, and passion whether at industry dinners or home-cooked gatherings.”
Mak’s career included a LEO nominated costume design for a short film and she was developing her own streetwear line when she passed away from cancer in 2012.

INDUSTRY ORIGINATOR
The Vancouver Fashion Week Industry Originator Awards recognize individuals who have made significant contributions to Vancouver's fashion industry. The awards celebrate professionals who have achieved excellence in their fields while helping strengthen and grow the local fashion community.
The nominees in each category are selected by the Vancouver fashion industry. Nominees are selected by members of the Vancouver fashion industry, and winners are chosen by the official Industry Originator Awards Jury. Awards are presented in nine categories: Designers, Hair & Makeup, Journalist, Photographer, Retailer, Stylist, Teacher, Wholesale / Distributor and Special Recognition.
