Ainsley McPherson is a Canadian designer recognized for her reinterpretations of historical dress. Her work merges romantic silhouettes with a darker, contemporary edge, creating looks that explore the tension between delicate femininity and a rebellious punk rock sensibility. Continually drawing inspiration from past eras while embracing modern individuality, her designs evoke feelings of both nostalgia and youthful modernity. A graduate of the Blanche Macdonald Centre’s Fashion Design program, her work has been featured on album covers, in music videos, and in editorials alongside her fellow emerging Canadian artists. Following her debut at Vancouver Fashion Week Fall/Winter 2025, McPherson returns to the runway with an elevated collection built on the evolution of her distinctive aesthetic.

What inspired you to become a fashion designer?
I've loved fashion since I was a child and started sewing when I was six years old. My interest in vintage and historical clothing inspired me to create my own designs and eventually pursue fashion as a career.
How would you describe your design style?
My designs combine historical fashion with a modern perspective. I enjoy blending romantic silhouettes with bold details to create pieces that express both strength and femininity.
What can people expect from your latest collection?
My latest collection, Veil of Iron, is inspired by Joan of Arc and 1990s fashion. It combines armour-inspired details, romantic silhouettes, and modern streetwear to celebrate confidence and individuality.
Why did you choose Joan Arc as the inspiration for Veil of Iron?
Joan of Arc represents courage, resilience, and individuality. She perfectly reflects the balance of strength and femininity that I want my designs to express.
Why do you often draw inspiration from historical fashion?
History offers endless inspiration and storytelling. I enjoy reimagining historical garments in a contemporary way, creating designs that feel both nostalgic and modern.
