NY by Novita Yunus
NY by Novita Yunus is a premium brand of Batik Chic created under the framework of Indonesia Fashion Forward 2013, program of Jakarta Fashion Week 2014. Novita Yunus herself is the founder and creative director of Batik Chic since 2009. Novita established Batik Chic out of love for tradition and necessity to preserve the culture, as is represented by the company’s motto “Keep the Heritage Alive”. Her mission is to raise awareness and foster the popularity of traditional Indonesia fabrics, including promoting vintage fabrics, design, and materials that has rich cultural meaning but slowly vanishing. A decade after Batik Chic and later after that NY was established, the brands has two galleries and fifteen flag stores across Jakarta, Surabaya, Singapore; and continuing expand into international market. Novita strongly believes that the key factors of the brands are exceptional Indonesian craftsmanship and the richness of Indonesian culture itself.
Bernarda’s years of developing her designs were spent at LaSalle College International (Jakarta) and Sugino Fashion College (Tokyo) where she graduated as a Fashion Designer.
Established in Vancouver since 2017, she is still connected to her roots through her designs. Indonesian textile heritage play a major role in complementing her collections with Batik Parang as one of her favourites. Muted colours and motifs are also distinctive of her collections.
