Shima Asri is an Iranian fashion designer based in Vancouver, Canada, whose path into fashion began after years of pursuing a more structured academic and professional background in technology. Since childhood, she has been fascinated by clothing as more than something that covers the body, seeing it as a beautiful everyday mask through which people can reveal or conceal identity, emotion, and vulnerability. After years of keeping her interest in fashion in the background, she eventually found the courage to pursue it more seriously and begin developing her own design practice. Her work explores movement, transparency, texture, the interaction of natural light with fabric and the body, and the relationship between clothing and emotion. At the heart of her design philosophy is the belief that beauty is not absolute, but shifts with experience, feeling, and perspective.

What inspired your journey into fashion design and the creation of your brand?
Shima’s interest in fashion began in childhood, through a fascination with clothing and the way people use it to express or protect different parts of themselves. Although she later followed an academic and professional path in technology, fashion remained a constant interest in the background. Over time, she realized that continuing to ignore that part of herself felt more difficult than taking the risk of pursuing it. Her journey into fashion and the creation of her brand grew from that decision—to give herself the freedom to follow something that had always felt deeply personal.
How would you describe your brand's identity or design philosophy?
SHIMA ASRI is rooted in freedom, individuality, and emotional expression, creating clothing that feels personal rather than defined by conventional ideas of beauty.
What inspired this collection?
ANTIDOTE was inspired by the freedom and fearlessness of childhood, and the idea of reconnecting with the inner voice that can become quieter as we grow older.
Are there any signature pieces, materials, techniques, or craftsmanship you would like to highlight?
The collection highlights sheer materials such as organza and tulle, with a focus on texture, volume, transparency, and movement.
What story or message does this collection tell?
ANTIDOTE carries the message that happiness is not something to search for outside ourselves; it begins by turning inward and being honest with who we truly are.
