Satomi el beso is the costume brand for Japanese idols by Satomi Takakura. She has provided contume designs mailnly for Japanese idols besides many TV commercials, stage performanes and so on. Each costume has an exclusive design, goes through a careful, handworked process and is created with specially chosen materials including Japanese anime-ish patterns by Japan-based artists.
“#if1” is inspired by Japanese modern culture and subculture lead by Japanese idols.
Japanese idols are not only cute but also “KAWAII” and a little bit “DASAI” (means lame in a good way). The coolness created by the synergistic effect of these senses with enigmatic vibes of Japanese idols is the signature of Satomi el beso. We are very confident that “#if1” is an exciting experience to rediscover our optimistic personalities we all have.
Prior to participating in the runway this time, it has been confirmed to collaborate with Kenta Matsukuma, a music producer known for working on songs such as Japanese idol group ‘Bish’. This miraculous tag team originated from the fact that the two were classmates at the National Institute of Technology, Kurume College. Satomi, who was studying programming, and Kenta, who was studying chemical engineering, both in Kurume (Fukuoka, Japan) will set up the chemical reaction in Vancouver. No one can resist high expectations for this miracle.

What inspired you to become a fashion designer?
Satomi learned clothing making techniques from an older gentleman she met at a café, which helped begin her career as a designer. She later developed extensive experience creating costumes for stage performances, commercials, and Japanese idols.
How would you describe your design style?
Her work focuses on one of a kind costumes created to express the identity of the person wearing them. Carefully selected materials, detailed handwork, and bold visual elements are central to her approach.
What can people expect from your “#if1” collection?
“#if1” celebrates contemporary Japanese culture and the subculture surrounding Japanese idols. Colourful costumes and anime inspired imagery create an energetic experience designed to introduce this distinctive part of Japanese culture to an international audience.
How does Japanese idol culture influence the designs in “#if1”?
The collection uses costume design to bring the energy and visual identity of Japanese idol culture to the runway. Satomi’s goal was to share this culture internationally through fashion, music, and visual presentation.
How are anime inspired elements incorporated into the collection?
Japanese anime style patterns created by Japan based artists were incorporated into carefully handcrafted costumes. Animation was also developed as part of the runway presentation, extending the collection’s Japanese subculture influences beyond the garments themselves.
