What inspired you to become a fashion designer?

My mother used to draw pictures of clothes when I was young, and I learned to enjoy making things by copying her embroidery and sewing. Years later, making costumes for my children's school opera brought that joy back, and it's what led me to restart my design career and found Atelier E-happiness in 2017.

How would you describe your design style?

I try to bring out the natural beauty in every fabric, adding decorations to make it sparkle and putting love into the garment itself. Giving love to what I create is always my top priority, and that's how my personal style comes through.

What can people expect from your Vancouver Fashion Week collection?

My "Colored Cloud" collection for Vancouver Fashion Week 2023 was inspired by my mother's love of the sky and clouds. I set aside my usual designs and worked with fresh, sparkling fabrics to bring that theme to life.

What makes designing idol costumes different from designing regular clothing?

Costume work is very different from ready-to-wear clothing, it calls for decorations and techniques that can only really be learned through experience. I spent a lot of time researching and asking questions to work through the areas where I lacked that knowledge.

Why did you make a point of asking questions and seeking advice instead of relying only on what you already knew?

I believe any problem can be solved with flexible thinking and a positive attitude, so I was never ashamed to ask questions or get advice when I didn't have the answer myself.
