NAOKI MULAKAMI is a shirt brand designed by two people:

Naoki, who is in charge of paintings, and Shota, who is in charge of patterns.

Paintings are done directly on the fabric, and the pieces are basically made to order.

This collection takes a philosophical approach to the concept of "Self" and is titled "I AM I".

What inspired you to become a fashion designer?

Naoki began creating clothes because he could not find the kind of clothing he personally wanted to wear. His particular love for shirts eventually led him to develop his own designs.

How would you describe your design style?

The brand specializes in handmade shirts that combine Naoki’s paintings with Shota’s pattern making. Each piece emphasizes carefully designed lines, details, and curves that complement the shape of the body.

What can people expect from your “I AM I” collection?

“I AM I” takes a philosophical approach to the concept of the “Self.” The collection continues the brand’s distinctive process of applying paintings directly to fabric and creating pieces largely on a made to order basis.

What materials are central to your shirt designs?

Liberty Tana Lawn and denim are the primary fabrics used in the brand’s shirts. These materials are shaped into carefully designed pieces that balance visual appeal with comfort.

How do painting and pattern making come together in your designs?

Naoki creates the paintings while Shota develops the patterns, with artwork often applied directly to the fabric. The patterns are also drafted by hand, bringing the two creative processes together in each piece.
