Immersed in a world of textiles and garments from a young age, Chang’s love for fashion was fostered by her father, a seasoned professional, in the Taiwan textile industry since the early 80s. Being exposed to the mesmerizing artistry, and craftsmanship of raw materials to wearable art became an integral portion of her childhood. Today, Chang channels this early influence in her own designs, paying homage to her roots, and blending her passion for textiles with her unique experience and vision for sustainable and functional fashion. Bold, and visually striking. Dedicated to innovative design through thoughtful experimentation. Chang is enamoured creating garments from shapes and forms in the natural world, and challenging traditional conventions. Taiwanese born, Canadian raised, Chang is eager to design, create and share her narrative.

What inspired you to become a fashion designer?
My interest in fashion was influenced by my father, who worked in the Taiwan textile industry. Growing up surrounded by fabrics and seeing raw materials transformed into wearable art made me interested in fashion from a young age. I later discovered fashion as a way to express myself and show how I wanted to be seen by the world.
How would you describe your design style?
My style combines unconventional shapes, experimental fabric manipulation, bold colours, and playful textures. I draw inspiration from both natural and artificial forms and aim to balance functionality with imagination while challenging traditional fashion conventions.
What can people expect from your latest collection?
My latest collection, Juvenescence Thalia, celebrates youth, femininity, and freedom of self expression. It combines soft pastels with bold accents, textured knits, high sheen fabrics, fluid silhouettes, playful details, and floral motifs to create a youthful and dreamlike atmosphere.
What inspired the Juvenescence Thalia collection?
The collection was inspired by memories of adolescence and the desire to protect the freedom and confidence of youth. I wanted to create clothing that encourages girls and women to express themselves freely without being limited by social expectations or objectification.
How did your exchange at Leeds Art University influence your approach to fashion design?
My exchange at Leeds Art University in 2020 was an important turning point in my design practice. It encouraged me to think more freely and move beyond traditional boundaries, helping me find a balance between functionality and imaginative experimentation.
