Designer Background
Designer Nobuco Sugimoto worked as chief designer for a major apparel manufacturer before moving to the town of Hayama in Kanagawa prefecture, Japan.
There, in 2006 she launched her own brand "HAYAMA SUNDAY" with the figure of her beloved dog ‘Sunday’ as the brand mark.
In 2013 she opened her flagship “HAYAMA SUNDAY” store.
Hayama, is a laid-back seaside town famous in Japan as a holiday villa area, a close getaway destination from Tokyo. Even the Japanese Imperial family spend their leisure time there, at their villa. With the sea before it and mountains behind, Hayama is a nature-filled oasis.
As you sit listening to the birdsong all around you and gaze out at the beautiful ocean, you see people at leisure enjoying themselves yachting, boating, and windsurfing often with the magnificent figure of Mt Fuji as a backdrop.
’HAYAMA SUNDAY’ was born in this pleasant, nature-rich town.
HAYAMA SUNDAY creates simple, high-quality "resort wear" inspired by the daily life of the people.
デザイナー経歴
デザイナー杉本伸子は大手アパレルメーカーのチーフデザイナーを経て葉山に移住をきっかけに２００６年に“ハヤマサンデー”を立ち上げ、
２０１３年にフラッグショップをオープン。犬のマークは愛犬“サンデー”がモチーフです。
海と山に囲まれ、ゆったりとした時間が流れる葉山町。御用邸もあり古くから別荘地として日本では有名です。鳥のさえずりを聴きながら美しい海を眺めると、ヨットやボート、ウィンドサーフィンなどマリンスポーツを楽しむ人々の姿が見られます。快晴の日は海の向こうに富士山も望める、そんな自然豊かな葉山町でハヤマサンデーは生まれました。生活の中で得たインスピレーションをもとにシンプルで上質な“リゾートウェア”を
発信し続けています。

What inspired you to become a fashion designer?
I grew up around my parents’ sewing factory and was surrounded by fabrics and people who worked with clothing. This environment influenced my interest in fashion from a young age, and I later studied fashion design at Bunka Fashion College before working as a designer for major apparel companies.
How would you describe your design style?
My style focuses on simple, high quality resort wear with comfortable materials and colours that make people feel good. I create practical pieces that are easy to combine and can be enjoyed as part of everyday life.
What can people expect from your collection?
You can expect simple and high quality resort wear inspired by the relaxed lifestyle and natural surroundings of Hayama. The designs use quality materials such as cashmere and linen, with comfortable silhouettes and colourful details.
How did moving to Hayama influence your approach to fashion design?
Moving from Tokyo to Hayama changed my lifestyle and the way I wanted to dress. The relaxed atmosphere, ocean, mountains, and natural surroundings inspired me to create clothes that I personally wanted to wear and eventually became the foundation for HAYAMA SUNDAY.
Why are comfort and high quality materials important to HAYAMA SUNDAY?
I wanted to create clothes that feel comfortable while still looking beautiful and refined. HAYAMA SUNDAY focuses on high quality materials and comfortable fabrics, with its garments made in Japan by experienced craftspeople.
