Malaika Hamid is a Canadian–Pakistani fashion and textile designer whose work interconnects storytelling, identity entanglement, and emotional depths. As she tries to bridge her two polarizing identities through her creations and designs.
Haus of Angel is her creative baby, a brand where she experiments with haute couture as a mouthpiece to narrate personal stories and the complexities of human feelings. For Malaika, the act of dressing becomes archival, the body transforms into a living repository where fabric and form act as vessels of memory and transformation.
Her collection The Carcass of Love intertwines deadstock lace, intricately beaded corsetry, and sculptural leatherwork to present a visceral dissection of love and heartbreak in their darkest, most consuming forms. Through this exploration, she confronts the unsettling yet compelling beauty that can emerge from emotional ruin, leaving the audience with the haunting reflection that beauty is often most profound in the darkest of places.
Malaika Hamid continues to expand Haus of Angel, developing her next collection; an exploration of the rotting heart as effigy, rendered through more lace and finer artisanal techniques.

What inspired you to become a fashion designer?
Fashion became my way of exploring identity and expressing emotions. Through Haus of Angel, I create couture pieces that tell personal stories and reflect the complexities of human experiences.
How would you describe your design style?
My design style blends haute couture with emotional storytelling. I combine sculptural silhouettes, intricate craftsmanship, and dramatic textures to create pieces that feel both intimate and powerful.
What can people expect from your latest collection?
The Carcass of Love explores love, heartbreak, and emotional transformation. Through deadstock lace, beaded corsetry, and sculptural leatherwork, the collection reveals how beauty can emerge even from pain and loss.
Why do you use fashion to explore themes like love and heartbreak?
I believe clothing can hold memories and emotions. My collections explore the emotional depth of human experiences, allowing people to connect with feelings that are often difficult to express in words.
What does the body represent in your designs?
To me, the body is a living archive of memory and transformation. Through fabric, structure, and couture techniques, I explore how clothing can preserve personal stories while reflecting growth and change.
