Basing her time between Vancouver, BC, and London, UK, designer Bree Laryea has had a diverse artistic background. With a decade-long career in photography and creative direction - her work has garnered recognition in renowned publications such as Vogue, GQ, Notion, Wonderland, Complex, and Range to name a few. Bree has captured various expressive domains, with a focus on music and fashion, before embarking on a transformative venture into design, culminating in the launch of her brand, BREEFORD, after graduating from Blanche Macdonald in 2024. BREEFORD is a brand that aims to rethink the essence of wearable, functional art through multiple mediums.
BREEFORD’s inaugural collection brings designer Bree Laryea’s photographic vision to life. This fluid collection represents a blank canvas (middle grey), and the starting point for the brand, while also paying homage to the designer’s hometown of Vancouver. It celebrates the love of living amidst the city’s famously grey yet resilient days, and the slivers of silver linings.
Bree’s passion for functionality, sportswear as performance wear - understated extravagance, and the fusion of various artistic mediums is evident in her designs and custom prints. She is driven by a love for love, and this sentiment permeates her work, creating pieces that are both practical and deeply personal.

What inspired you to become a fashion designer?
My background in photography and visual creative work led me to explore fashion as another form of artistic expression. I see clothing as a way to communicate ideas, emotions, and personal perspectives through a visual medium.

My approach combines wearable art with photography, creative direction, and fashion design. I focus on thoughtful, carefully crafted pieces that explore the connection between clothing, personal expression, and self-awareness.

You can expect wearable art that combines photography-inspired visuals, carefully crafted silhouettes, and a thoughtful approach to personal expression. The designs explore how clothing can create a deeper connection between the wearer and what they wear.
How does your background in photography influence your approach to fashion design?
Photography is an important part of my creative background, and I bring that visual perspective into fashion through graphic imagery and engineered photography prints. This allows me to explore fashion as both clothing and a visual form of storytelling.
What inspired the “middle grey” concept behind your collection?
The “middle grey” concept was inspired by Vancouver’s subdued and misty surroundings, particularly its characteristic grey skies. I translated that atmosphere into a calming grey palette and designs intended to create a sense of quiet power and reflection.
