What inspired you to become fashion designers?

Our passion for Mexican textile traditions and our desire to bring the work of Mexican artisans into contemporary design inspired us to create BANI. We wanted to combine traditional craftsmanship with new design trends while giving these artisanal techniques a place in modern life.

How would you describe your design style?

Our style combines Mexican textile traditions with contemporary design, creating pieces with a modern personality while preserving the quality and character of handcrafted work.

What can people expect from your latest collection?

BANI’s latest collection, Marbles at Careyes, draws inspiration from the beaches and vibrant architecture of Careyes. The collection combines coastal colours, marble-inspired patterns, contemporary silhouettes, and handcrafted textiles made by artisans in Oaxaca.

How did working with artisans in Oaxaca shape the development of BANI?

Meeting Jesús González, an artisan from Chacalapa, Oaxaca, was an important step in the creation of BANI. We worked with him to develop our own textile designs, which eventually became the foundation for the brand’s handcrafted pieces.

How does BANI help preserve Mexican textile traditions while creating contemporary fashion?

We work directly with Mexican artisans and incorporate traditional weaving techniques into contemporary designs. By using recycled threads and handmade textiles created on pedal looms, BANI aims to preserve traditional craftsmanship while giving it a place in modern fashion.
