As a designer, I aim to reconstruct ideas of feminism while creating new representations of Latin American design by creating engaging pieces that provoke and inspire curiosity. Every garment originates from love for the craft, my culture, and consciousness of our impact on the earth.

What inspired you to become a fashion designer and create MEIHANA?

My love for the craft, my Ecuadorian roots, and a deep awareness of our impact on the environment have been the driving forces behind my journey as a fashion designer. These elements are at the very heart of everything I create.

How would you describe your design style?

I aim to reconstruct ideas of feminism while creating new representations of Latin American design, making pieces that provoke and inspire curiosity.

What can people expect from your latest collection, “COME AND GO”?

My latest collection, Paramo, uses natural fabrications, hand stitching, and soft silhouettes to explore the tension between the hyper-masculine Chagra and the hyper-feminine.

What techniques and materials define your design process?

My work is built on natural fabrications, hand stitching, and soft silhouettes.

What do these methods explore in Paramo?

Through these methods, Paramo explores the tension between the hyper-masculine figure of the Chagra and the hyper-feminine figure of the town Virgin, set within the landscapes of the Andean highlands.
