VFW is delighted to announce the upcoming runway show of Musarrat Rahman for our F/W 18 season. A London based Bangladeshi designer, we love how her work merges traditional Eastern craft with high-end fabrics and technology.

VFW: What drives you to design?

Musarrat: It’s the creative outlet that best lets me express myself. I feel like if I’m not involved in this then I’m not being myself.

VFW: What is the inspiration behind your S/S 18 collection?

Musarrat: The sea, both in reality and mythos. The alien worlds that exist beneath the waves are something I have always been fascinated with….the colours, the strange creatures. However, the sea has this other existence as well, in culture and in what Jung would describe as ‘the collective unconscious’. That sounds kind of highbrow, but actually, one of my biggest cultural touchstones going into this collection was the movie ‘The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou’. Wes Anderson’s colour palette and aesthetic generally is something I love, that way of looking at the world is something I try to draw from.
