Get to Know Choiboko

Korean brand, Choiboko is full of beautifully designed pieces that are a great mix of colour and structure, and this September they will be showcasing their innovative work at Vancouver Fashion Week. The brand’s Fall/Winter 2017 Daegu collection has many wearable, sophisticated designs that plenty of people would want to have in their own wardrobe. Creator, and original designer, Bok Ho Choi has been in the fashion industry since graduating from design school in 1973. Now with over 40 years of experience under his belt, he is still an important part of Choiboko and the Korean fashion industry. To get to know Bok Ho Choi before viewing his pieces at the Vancouver Fashion Week, we asked him a few questions.

VFW: What is your favourite part of being a designer?

Choiboko: I like to consider the social role of fashion in a philosophical point of view, with an interest in human beings and nature. My inspirations have always come from surroundings in daily life, such as nature and social life. From my first debut work, called ‘Accusation Costume,’ in 1973, I have always tried to incorporate a message on social issues such as environmental problems, and the Daegu subway fire in 2003, in Korea.

VFW: What has been a challenge for you this year?

Choiboko: Despite my long career, and not only this year, it has always been very difficult creating new collections.
