Highlights: Khatsahlano 2017!

On July 8, 2017 West 4th Ave was blocked from Burrard to MacDonald for the Khatsahlano Street Party.

The festival starts off with a First Nations blessing to honour the man who gave his name to the area and the event. Now in it’s sixth year, the festival is meant to represent the laid back, creative atmosphere of West 4th with stand from local boutiques within the Kitsilano community, along with food trucks and live entertainment.

Once again, Vancouver Fashion Week was part of the celebration! With two fashion shows at the BC Living Stage, on the corner of Yew St. and West 4th Ave, and had our very own Beauty Bar.

The Athletic Wear fashion show was held at 1pm and the Ready to Wear fashion show was held at 4:30pm with all the outfits coming from local shops.

The Beauty Bar was open from the start of the festival with a makeup artist and hair stylist, so anyone could have come around and got their makeover done for free.

After getting made up by a professional stylist, you could go to our media wall and snap a picture of your new look. During the festival we had a contest going on where if you posted on Instagram with the hashtag #myvfwstyle for a chance to win two two tickets to Vancouver Fashion Week this September.

Throughout the day we had our Street Style team looking out for cool and fashionable people that were attending the festivities!

Here’s a recap of a few of the great looks and pieces we saw during Khats.

Thanks to everyone who came out to try our Beauty Bar and came out to see our shows; and the behind the scenes team of models, makeup artists, hair stylists and all the kind stores on W 4th that featured their outfits, and last but not least the Khatsahlano team.

Insta-worthy Photo Spots

These days it seems all photos are taken for Instagram’s sake; with the perfect background,  outfit, and location.  Fortunately, living in Vancouver there’s a lot of options to take the perfect Insta photo.  Whether nature inspired or architecture driven backdrops,  the following are a few of the must visit Instagram worthy locations.

1. Gastown

It is one of those old-town feel places, with brick walls, a steam clock and cobblestone paved walkways, a perfect place for an afternoon photoshoot.  As Vancouver’s oldest neighbourhood, Gastown is full of historic character, located between Main and Richards Street, north of Hastings Street in downtown Vancouver.  Some of the must see spots are the Waldorf Hotel, iconic Hotel Europe, the Blood Alley and  Water Street as the main street of Gastown, housing some of the best boutiques and restaurants in town.  With plenty of hidden corners and backdrops, Gastown is well known for its Victorian style street lamps and unique architecture dating back to 19th century.

2. Vancouver Art Gallery

The Vancouver Art Gallery is housed in the former main courthouse of Vancouver. Located in the heart of downtown Vancouver, between Robson and Georgia Street, it’s grey stonework, round columns and iconic lions at the main entrance, make for some of the best Instagram photos.  Whether you are visiting the latest gallery exhibition and have the chance to go inside, or are taking a stroll and gazing at architectural details from the outside, this photoshoot location is not to be missed.  The round stairwell inside and the high ceilings add character to any photo.

3. Stanley Park

Located minutes away from downtown Vancouver, Stanley Park is an area covering over 400 hectares, surrounded almost entirely by water.  With plenty of backdrops to choose from, the seawall, the Lighthouse, English Bay beach, Coal Harbour boat launch, or the Lions Gate bridge, it’s sure to impress the photo savvy enthusiasts.  As a recurring location for weddings, grad photos and tourists from abroad, Stanley Park sets for a perfect post-card photo that won’t disappoint.

4. Capilano Suspension Bridge

You’ve seen suspension bridge posts all over Instagram feeds, but admittedly, they do make for stunning photos.  The lush greenery in the background, the suspending bridge to make your heart skip a beat, and the bridge itself are just the key elements for a beautiful photo.  The best time to visit the park is during the early opening hours, to avoid the lineups of people trying to take the perfect photo.  If you’re crunched for time, Lynn Canyon Suspension bridge located in North Vancouver is a smaller scale version, with as just stunning scenery.

5. Joffre Lakes

The summer months are here, and that means it’s time to spend more time outdoors; but it also means visiting BC’s stunning turquoise lakes and not just for the photos, but for the hikes as well, right?  An hour and a half drive from downtown Vancouver, minutes away from Whistler is Wedgemount Lake.  A breathtaking glacier surrounded by mountains covered in snow is the milky turquoise lake that’s bound to impress.  A bit of a trek of 14 km, a full day’s worth is needed to hike up and down the mountain, that’s elevated 1160 km.

Another great Insta famous location is Joffre Lakes, located in Pemberton, and known for its three turquoise coloured lakes.  The second lake, is probably the most popular, and really, any time of year, except when the grounds are covered in snow is a good time to hike up.  A day trip well worth the time, and photos to make anyone wish they’d been there with you.
