Eco-Friendly Fashions Found at Vancouver Fashion Week
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE |
November 6, 2009
VANCOUVER, November 6, 2009 –Vancouver Fashion Week continues today with eco-friendly themed fashion. True to the west coast spirit, VFW is highlighting the importance of sustainability and social responsibility by showcasing designs that are ecologically aware. Today at the Colin Campbell Design Showroom (www.colin-campbell.ca) located at 494 Railway St, Vancouver designs will be fashion forward as well as eco-friendly.
Today Vancouver Fashion Week will be featuring local designs on the catwalk from both established and emerging eco-friendly designers such as Lav & Kush, Hawks Ave and Red Jade.
Lav and Kush was launched Spring 2008 by designer Angela Saxena. The brand was born out of the desire to create fashionable clothing for women along with an equal desire to make a positive difference in the world .
Angela Saxena added that, "We choose to use fabrics that are either organic, sustainable and/or natural. We believe in having it all; style and sustainability. We support various non profits which is a huge area of interest to us, Peta, imagine1day.org and World Vision are among the few. We strongly encourage our Lav and Kush fans to send us feedback on their favorite organizations. Awareness is the first step in change!"
The basic aesthetic of Lav and Kush is flirty feminine styles in soft buttery fabrics that flatter most body types with carefully placed details such as gathers, pleats and ruffles. The line is primarily manufactured in Vancouver and features moderate prices points which makes the line affordable for most Eco fashionistas. Most items can be easily transformed from day to evening wear. Found in more than 50 plus boutiques across Canada and Northwestern U.S., Lav and Kush is becoming one of Canada's favorite brands.
Lav and Kush was invited by Vancouver Fashion week this season (and participated last season also) to showcase the Spring'10 collection. Saxena continued stating that she is “very excited to work with Vancouver Fashion Week as they are one of the leading organizations on the West coast promoting brands with utmost class. Their commitment to promoting designers and global connections are unsurpassed. The fact that every member of the team has shown so much dedication and commitment is extremely impressive.”
Tonight will wrap up with a “Night in Taipei” event that caters to the asian media and asian influence in fashion. Vancouver based designer Angela Chen will showcase designs from her line Orange NYC. Following the shows at Colin Campbell an after party will be held at Tunnel Nightclub in Vancouver. Tickets are still available for tonight shows and afterparties. DESIGNER CARPET SHOWROOM HOSTS VANCOUVER FASHION WEEK
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE |
October 29, 2009
Vancouver, BC, October 29, 2009 - Colin Campbell is opening their showroom at 494 Railway Street, Vancouver, to host Vancouver Fashion Week. This exceptional event is being held in Colin Campbell’s world class showroom and gallery, (a fabulous space not to be missed), a perfect showcase that compliments their fine quality merchandise with the world renowned and local Designers.
A premier wholesaler of high quality carpets, broadloom and area rugs, Colin Campbell is a trade only designer showroom catering to the architect and design community in Western Canada, with showrooms in Vancouver, Calgary and Edmonton. A sterling reputation precedes them as they have been importing and distributing wool and natural floor coverings for over 55 years.
Their state of the art carpets are made all over the world, primarily in Nepal or Katmandu, as these areas are known for the finest quality knot and product throughout the world with contemporary and traditional rugs. The majority of the rugs have the rug mark certification which ensures no child labour. Always being ahead of the standard, they have always focused on natural materials, primarily wool carpet.
Showcased in their gallery will be designs from two award winning designers, Zoë Luyendijk and Jan Kath, with whom they have exclusive representation in Western Canada for several years and together represent the best talent on the planet when it comes to modern rug making, an opportunity all designers and potential clients should take advantage.
Zoë Luyendijk is a local designer with a history in BC designing hand knotted carpets, hand-made by highly skilled artisans in the Kathmandu valley. She along with her partner has developed a type of weave that the original weavers in Nepal have yet to discover. This blend of new weave along with a centuries old traditional weave have created rugs that literally are works of art and has enabled Zoë to create intricate modern designs and textures in a very organic style with a west coast feel.
Jan Kath is a fourth generation rug designer with a “new edge” flair unlike previous generations. Also Jan’s rugs are produced in Nepal, and then shipped to Switzerland for a special wash that gives them their signature sheen and sparkle, unlike most other rugs. His ability to create and combine traditional, transitional designs into modern rugs is second to none.
